V&G San Juanillo was founded by Tomas Gutierrez, an agronomist, and Allan Vargas, an engineer. Together, they have built a reputation for producing exceptional coffees, constantly experimenting, innovating, and pushing the limits of coffee cultivation. Their primary focus is on growing new hybrid varietals developed by CiCafe, the Coffee Research Institute of Costa Rica. Tomas and Allan acquired the farm in 2007 with the goal of revitalising the landscape and soil, while introducing new and exciting coffee varietals. Initially planted with Caturra and Catuai trees, they were eager to experiment with varietals offering better disease resistance and unique cup profiles. Today, their farm grows a variety of coffees, including Marsellesa, H1 Centroamericano, Caturra, CatuaÃ, and a small amount of Geisha. In 2018, they expanded by purchasing a neighbouring farm, increasing their total acreage to 12 hectares. They are also Rainforest Alliance certified. In 2015, their H1 hybrid varietal earned them 19th place in the Cup of Excellence.
