Gonjobe Bensa is a natural Ethiopian heirloom coffee produced by Basha Bekele in Gonjobe village, Bensa, Sidama. Grown between 2450 and 2580 masl, Gonjobe is Basha’s highest elevation farm and the lot that helped establish his name as one of the exciting young producers in the region.
Basha works with coffee from his own farm as well as his family’s farms around Gonjobe. Ripe cherries are carefully collected, floated and sorted before being dried whole on African raised beds under clean mesh. Once dried, the coffee is hulled at Basha’s mill in Bombe before being prepared for export from Addis Ababa.
The Gonjobe farm sits on rich Nitisol soils and covers around 50.5 hectares, producing an annual crop of approximately 15.5 tonnes. Since 2021, Basha has continued to grow his work across Gonjobe, Murago and Kokose, building a network focused on quality coffees from Bensa.
Gonjobe is particularly meaningful to Basha. Coffee from this single farm earned recognition at the 2024 Cup of Excellence and Taste of Harvest 2025, marking an important point in his journey as a producer.
