Tamiru Tadesse is the founder of Alo Coffee, a specialty coffee producer based in Bensa, Sidama, Ethiopia. Originally trained as an electrical engineer and university lecturer, he brings a thoughtful and highly intentional approach to coffee production.

After years of working within Ethiopia’s coffee supply chain, Tamiru recognised a gap between the exceptional quality of coffees from his home region and the value returned to farmers. In 2020, he established Alo Coffee with a clear mission, to showcase the full potential of Sidama coffees while improving livelihoods within the local farming community.

Today, Tamiru collaborates closely with hundreds of smallholder farmers across Sidama, focusing on selectively harvested, extreme elevation microlots and precise processing methods. His work blends traditional Ethiopian coffee practices with progressive techniques such as controlled fermentation and anaerobic processing, resulting in coffees known for their clarity, intensity, and complexity.

A key focus is on the 74158 variety, developed by the Jimma Agricultural Research Center (JARC). Valued for its disease resistance and strong cup quality, this varietal forms the foundation of many of their coffees.
