Espresso - Abedo Abamecha, Ethiopia
Nestled in the lush Jimma Zone of Oromia, Ethiopia, Abdo Abamecha’s coffee farm is the heart of his growing coffee business. Since starting exports in 2021, Abdo has cultivated a 30-hectare farm producing both washed and natural coffees, nurtured by his expertise and the region’s fertile soils. Abdo oversees every step of the process, from cultivation to processing, at the washing station he founded in 2017.
What began with a few coffee beds and a small machine has since expanded, enabling the production of some of the finest coffee from the birthplace of coffee. Abedo’s station now processes over 220 tonnes annually, employing 70 temporary workers and 6 permanent staff. Abdo plans to grow his farm, bring in more farmers, increase exports, and build a sustainable business.
Their naturally processed coffee starts with the finest, ripest cherries, dried for 20-25 days. Abdo shares, “We harvested this coffee from 30 hectares of our own land, working with 200 growers—30 from Meti village and 170 from Bedeyi village.” Each batch is tracked from farm to final product, ensuring traceability and stored by specific lot.
